It’s hard to believe that it is Christmas time and even more so that we have been living in Gaborone for over a year and in Botswana for almost a year and a half. A lot has happened, but even more, we have grown in many ways. The girls keep running out of clothes that fit. A sure sign of their growth. But more than that, we have grown with each other. We have grown to appreciate the many new friends that we have made and the new experiences that have been placed before us. As we look back at the year, perhaps more than anything we are amazed at how God has moved in our lives, and has been nudging (or pushing) us as we all mature in many ways. We have been blessed in many ways. The African Independent Churches are very different than those we left in Canada, but each Sunday when we go to a church God enables us to worship and to contribute to the service. As we go to a church we trust God to help us know what to do and say. This is a metaphor for life here. Many people cannot do it on their own, so they trust in God in ways we often do not think we need to in the West. We are learning to have our schedules flexible and to trust God to know where our next steps are to be. On Glyn’s birthday we got a bit of rain. Maybe more of a tease. On Susan’s birthday we got a whole night of gentle, refreshing rain. Before that we had only had one storm since Easter. We consider ourselves blessed to have received rain on our birthdays. But we have been blessed by more than rain. We have made both foreign and Motswana friends here. We have work that touches individuals and the churches they lead. Maeyken and Adriaena are in a good school and have done well both academically and socially. We thank God for blessing us and we thank God for you and the support and encouragement you have been to us. We trust that you will have a wonderful Christmas and that in this season you too will see God at work. Glyn, Susan, Maeyken & Adriaena |
