"Church Meetings" by Glyn on August 6, 2008, 1:45 pm, in category General
Church meeting     There are some things that seem to be universal.  Even though there can be exciting things happening in churches and even in church meetings - they are not exciting for everyone all the time... This is from our time with the Revelation Blessed Peace church's leadership meeting in Kgagodi, July 19 and 20.

"Road Hazzards" by Susan on August 5, 2008, 4:07 pm, in category General
truck     Lately we've noticed that driving is becoming more challenging here. Many traffic lights are either not working or bulbs are burnt out. People are becoming much more aggressive in their driving. Whereas at one time non working traffic lights were treated as a four way stop and drivers respected each other now there is a rush to get several through at a time. The other day Glyn was stopped at a RED light. It was one of the places where the lights hadn't been working for a long time. But the light.....

"Rain and Fog" by Glyn on July 15, 2008, 9:31 am, in category General
Last Saturday evening we heard a huge bang - a thunder type bang.  Not so strange in July if you live in Canada or the US.  But here - this was a strange sound.  We have not had rain since mid June and that was not all that much.  But this was not a casual bang - and later in the night it was not a casual storm.

Today we woke to fog.  Heavy enough that you could not see from one end of a soccer field to the other. We had to let the car h.....

"Our Neighbours" by Susan on July 12, 2008, 4:23 am, in category General
This week I (Susan) traveled to Francistown. Francistown is about 100 km from the Zimbabwean (Bulawayo) border. It's proximity means that stories abound about the problems of our neighbouring countries. Before the recent troubles it was virtually impossible to be considered a refuge in Botswana if you came from Zim. Now Dukwe Refuge Camp (located north of Francistown) has numerous Zim political refuges and temporary camps have been set up in other parts of the country. But people must prove they.....

"Oops" by Glyn on June 17, 2008, 2:09 am, in category General
OK, so not a lot of posts for a long time.  This is my attempt to try try better - including some posts before the oops.

"More bosses" by GlynAdmin on June 17, 2008, 2:07 am, in category General
Hippo     After Steve left, Hippo, our Canadian administrator arrived.  The visits were coordinated so that they could both overlap here and also in South Africa for meetings.  Hippo and I went to Francistown.  Usually that is a 5 hour bus or car trip.  This time (first time ever for me) we flew.  left Gaborone at 6:45am and got back a bit after 8pm.  Francistown is not all that big, and the airport is close to town (and there is no public transp.....

"Pitseng" by GlynAdmin on June 17, 2008, 1:47 am, in category General
Kgotla     The first stop in Pitseng is always the Kgotla and a conversation with the Kgosi (chief).  Kgosi Mafolko has been fundamental in making our visits productive and the Bluffton university visit possible.  I was not suffering from the cold as much as the Kgosi or come of the other men - one was wearing a full face covering balaclava.

"Finished work" by GlynAdmin on June 17, 2008, 1:44 am, in category General
Mokgatlo     The buildings that MCC built in the 1970s.  These served an important purpose in helping to create a village and helping that village with a school, clink and water system.  The village is located a couple of kilometers away.  The MCC buldings were not intended to be in the centre and in the end are decidedly not.  They do hold a special place for the people of Pitseng......

"Pitseng and Bosses" by GlynAdmin on June 17, 2008, 1:40 am, in category General
field     Steve Wiebe-Johnson one of our North American administrators was here for a visit in early June.  We visited a number of places, including Pitseng.  Pitseng was the place the Bluffton University students stayed at a year ago.  But more Pitseng is a community with a long history of Mennonite work, dating back to the 1970s.  Here Steve is joking with the guy who gave us a bit of a tour, but we are also standing in his corn field......

"roof racks" by Glyn on October 15, 2007, 7:14 am, in category General
truck     So what do you really need a roof rack for anyways??  All you need is a sun roof.

This is still a work in progress and there are a number of broken links on this page - please be patient - Thanks GJ
